NEW BOOK by Albert Clayton Gaulden
Moments and Windstorms: Take Back Your Power
This ground-breaking book offers an in-depth journey through the author’s eye-opening addiction to alcohol and how he eventually got sober. Gaulden has written a number of books as well as being Founding Director of the Sedona Intensive, one of the country’s most highly regarded alternative personal growth programs.
The author shares all the ways God was leading and guiding him even when he was still drinking. “Most of us look at false paradigms to measure success in our lives. So much of where I went and the jobs I took helped me remember what I was to do as my life’s work.”
Gaulden’s book is divided into five parts. Each section explores different parts of his journey, incorporating all the places he’s been, the studies he’s made and the people he’s met. His point of view is that each client who sought his help made him a better person. At the end of the book, he has some daunting but hopeful words about the conditions of the planet Earth and what we need to do to survive as a race.

The Signs of the Time–The Cancer Solar Cycle promises to be full of surprises mainly in the political arena. Cancer can be extremely nurturing and also known to be too hands-on in all situations. We all have to live life through the lens of whatever sign rules the Solar Cycle. All of us this month will feel a bit more like Cancer than our own sign. It is called living life on life’s terms. All signs get 30 days more or less to strut their stuff and then it is on to the next and different Solar Cycle.
There will be a Full Moon on June 27 at 6:43 PM EDT at 6 degrees of Capricorn. Forewarned is forearmed. This is going to be one of those harsher aspects and requires total honesty in all areas of the lives of Capricorns and Cancers. Full Moons, by nature, cause a lot of depression and introspection which is not always the most pleasant past time. One of my favorite teachers from ages ago reminded me that “everything that has a beginning has an end.” When I disagreed (pre-sobriety days), she said that some people do not know how to let go so they pay a huge price when something or someone is ripped out of their lives.
There is a Solar Eclipse New Moon at 20 degrees of Cancer on July 12 at 4:48 PM EDT. Eclipses are more impacting and oftentimes life changing than ordinary lunations. This transit will affect Cancers and Capricorns most severely. Other sings more positively affected will be Scorpio and Pisces; and to a minor degree, Earth Signs, Taurus and Virgo.
There are a lot of retrograde planets this Solar Cycle. When a planet goes retrograde it diminishes the effect it has on us all. The retrograde planets this Solar Cycle are Mars in Aquarius, Jupiter in Scorpio, Saturn in Capricorn, Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn. That’s half the planets. Mercury goes retrograde at 23 degrees of Leo on July 26.
Fire Signs
ARIES (March 20 – April 19)–Before you storm out of the house looking for your next windfall we suggest you understand that this Solar Cycle is not in the cards for you Rams. Both lunations are at cross-purposes. You may benefit a bit from Mercury in Leo and Mars in Aquarius but these aspects could turn out to be a false report for all the wild and crazy ideas you conjure up. What I would do since I have two planets in Aries is to go into the laboratory and make plans next month when the Sun goes into Leo. Now there’s a Sun Sign you can deal with. This month err on the side of caution.
LEO (July 22 – August 21)–The sun also comes up for you Lions and Lionesses in a most favorable way this Solar Cycle. Always the caution is to mind your p’s and q’s and always show you beneficence when the occasion calls. Actually the Stock Market could be a boon for you if you are careful about where you place your bets. A faraway exotic holiday destination calls you if you have the cash to carry you there. Also there is a dispute that lingers with someone in your inner circle. Take care of it before it becomes irreparable. There is a caution in affairs of the heart. Don’t get too far out on a limb so that you can’t come back unharmed. A bird in the hand…you remember that old saw.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 20)–Some of our birth signs seem to have been on celestial hiatus for awhile and Sagittarius is one of them. November 8 Jupiter returns home in the sign it rules, and that would be you Archers. We don’t sit around and do nothing or just twiddle our thumbs. There can be a lot of house cleaning and making preparation for when you find yourself in the fast lane. A good suggestion for you would be to start keeping a journal. See your thinking on paper and it will amaze you what you see. Meditation is also a better suggestion for you because no sign gets as antsy as you do. Chill. Reconnect with your inner world.
Earth Signs
TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)–Everything is coming up roses and opportunities galore this month for you and your significant other. With both lunations favorable to you, dance the month of nights away. Also with the Sun in Cancer all month you might feel that you’ve died and been reborn favorable and in line to have the time of your life. Continue to be cautious about finances and how you spend money. But never ever forget to share your good fortune with those less fortunate. The 10th, 14th and 18th of July are special days for you. What I love most about Taurus is your loyalty to those who deserve it. Never change that sterling quality.
VIRGO (August 22 – September 21)–On July 10 Venus sidles into your picky and analytical sign of Virgo. Now the Celestials are bestowing some blessings on you. The Solar Eclipse in Cancer as well as the Full Moon in Capricorn both align with your core values. No matter what your birth sign the challenge of the return to the Lower World is to seek the Divine Higher Power within you. Transits give and take and bless and wreck havoc because the purpose of life is to deflate the Ego at depth. The Ego is the antithesis of all that is godly and holy. The Ego is loaded with all the deceptions that are designed to ensnare and deceive each of us.
CAPRICORN (December 21 – January 19)–There is so much going on with you Goats that I don’t know where to start. So as Granny used to say, how about at the beginning. There is a Full Moon on June 27 at 6 degrees of Capricorn. If you know a thimble-full of astrology you dig that full moons are about endings. But that’s not all bad. A lot of things need to be over and done with. Many times what’s been in the cooker is done and ready to be served. Then there is that Solar Eclipse New Moon at 20 degrees of Cancer on July 12–opposing you. To make the griddle hotter Saturn is retrograde at 7 degrees and Pluto retrograde at 20 degrees. There’s a whole lot of shaking going on this Solar Cycle but no sign can handle the toughest times like a Goat.
Air Signs
GEMINI (May 21 – June 21)–On June 29th your ruling planet Mercury goes into Leo, a sign most fortunate for you. Be aware that at the end of July it goes retrograde which makes for ups and downs and cautions flags for all signs. July 19 Venus goes into Virgo, a sign that squares you. Gemini is loosey-goosey and Virgo is uptight and meticulous. But the brilliance of astrology is that we learn from each other and particularly when planets go into signs that challenge us. Mars in Aquarius, another Air Sign, also can aid and abet your carefully laid plans. Always for you Twins, talk it over and let the kinder, softer and more balanced one run the show this month.
LIBRA (September 22 – October 22)–What we all love about the Sign of the Scales is that you are always trying to find the middle ground, or in other terms, consensus. But this month with the Solar Eclipse and Full Moon you will more than likely wait in the wings for better times more conducive to wise choices. You do get some help from your ruling planet Venus in Leo from June 29 until July 9. But then Venus goes into straight-laced that will do you no favors. Also, Zodiac pal, Leo in Mercury will hold you in good stead throughout this Solar Cycle.
AQUARIUS (January 20 – February 17)–Mars will be in Aquarius but goes retrograde on June 27 and will remain in the sign of the Water Bearer until August 12. Then it will be back in Aquarius in direct motion until November 16. In case you Aquarians are too insular to understand the rules and regulations of the Cosmos, Mars can make you feel like you have ants in your pants and going faster than you would like in the slow lane. The good news is that you will feel like you are on top of the world one minute and then doubting yourself the next. In case you haven’t read the fine print here, the answer to all your problems today is your relationship with a Higher Power. Om. Tat. Sat. Om.
Water Signs
CANCER (June 21 – July 21)–Nothing gets a Cancer going quit like a challenge or two. Well, you Moon-ruled allies of mine, here is a Solar Cycle that may be a bit more than some of you can handle. The culprit is the Solar Eclipse New Moon on July 12. What you will face may be changing where you live, or at least doing a major rehab. You will need all the courage you can muster to face resistance from family as well as a few friends. Because we are in topsy turvy times in politics and religion at this time stick to what you know to be true to you. Don’t lean too heavily on old isms and dogma; know what you know to be true for you and let the rest of the world go by.
SCORPIO (October 22 – November 21)–Jupiter may be in retrograde for a while longer, but it won’t stop the parade that you organized months ago. Be aware that the Solar Eclipse New Moon in Cancer and the Full Moon in Capricorn both are in sync with you and your agenda. Watch out for Mercury in Leo most of this Solar Cycle. Leos love to run and jump and throw caution to the wind when they get wound up. Scorpios are deeper thinkers and slower to action. On July 10, Venus goes into compatible Virgo. If all of this seems to be too good to be true, trust the Swami of the Stars and make your plans. You’re in for a load of positive surprises after July 10.
PISCES (February 18 – March 19)–I want to remind you Fish that we need to consider the entire birth chart and not just the Sun Sign. Neptune, your ruling planet, is in retrograde until November 25. Therefore, the harsh fallout from Neptune will be greatly diminished. If you are writing or composing it may take longer to create what you are trying to produce. And all the cautions are still in play: don’t get too loopy or buy into something before you run it by a professional. The Full Moon in Capricorn and the Solar Eclipse New Moon in Cancer will both hold you in good stead.

View From a Chair by Marilyn Gard
If you were to find yourself confined to a wheelchair, how would you handle it? View From A Chair chronicles the author’s experience of being chair-bound from multiple sclerosis for the majority of her adult life. Starting with an illusion of invulnerability to the reality of total dependence on caregivers whoaren’tdependable, she describes the frustrations and challenges of disability with honesty and humor.
Her search for meaning led from Christianity to New Age to Native American. Her book is laced with references to the spiritual search that culminated in conversion to Judaism a few years ago. Because she is a lesbian who came out during the 1960’s and 70’s when women married in an attempt to conform to society’s values and were shamed by Christian leaders if they dared to love another woman, she shares her struggle to find peace with her sexual orientation while simultaneously dealing with increasing disability.
If you find yourself dependent on caregivers, you will appreciate the honest appraisal of caregiver experiences. “It is rare to read a personal account that at the same time breaks your heart and uplifts you. View from a Chair accomplishes that. The reader will never interact with a person in a wheelchair in the same way after reading this personal account.
“I met this delightful author at Network Chiropractic here in Neverland waiting to get an adjustment. I decided to add and recommend her book because her story is both riveting and uplifting.”

Couples Who Went to the Extreme to Save Their Marriage
An interview with Carl and Joyce Gioia in RedBook Magazine
When Joyce Gioia couldn’t think of anything else to save her marriage and solve the trust issues that were tearing her and her husband, Carl, apart, she decided to make an investment into what she hoped could be a life-long, loving marriage. They packed their bags and headed to the Sedona Intensive: A $16,000 week-long intensive therapy session that helps people release all self-destructive behaviors.
The purpose of this particular therapy was to help them become stronger individuals, and the counseling was never couple-based. In fact, they only saw each other once per morning at 7 a.m. when they attended a 12-step meeting. The meetings addressed addictions—but it had nothing to do with substance abuse—it was focused on things like work addictions and co-dependence issues.
Between the supervised journaling, visits with renowned mental health professionals, and their genuine will to make things work, Carl and Joyce were able to recover their relationship.
“I believed that the nature and the intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing a resolution in our marriage,” Joyce said. And she was right. By looking at each other as total individuals, they were able to discover what was most important to their spouse and cater to those specific needs. Two years have passed and they’re more in love than ever.
Q & A
RedBook – Explain what the Sedona intensive is.
The Sedona Intensive is a rigorous, weeklong self-exploration. During the week, through concentrated journaling and visits with mental and physical health professionals, we each invested a lot of effort and energy in self-discovery. This self-learning experience is designed and managed by well-respected psychologist Albert Gaulden and includes daily meeting with Albert to monitor progress and ensure results.
RedBook – How did you find out about it?
My brother, who is a nationally acclaimed Emergency Department physician, had gone through this experience with his wife Amber and highly recommended it to us.
RedBook – What did you do at the Sedona intensive?
Every day, we began by attending a 12-Step Meeting with AA. Then, we had a rotating schedule of appointments with a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a yoga instructor, and/or an energy-balancing professional, and of course, Albert. In our “spare” time, we took independent hikes, though the spectacular Sedona canyons.
RedBook – What made you decide to go to this?
We decided to do it, because nothing else seemed to be working to resolve our trust issues. I believed that the nature and intensity of this self-learning experience would help us move beyond the impasse that was preventing resolution of our marriage.
RedBook – How did it change your relationship?
We both worked very hard to discover why we engaged in self-destructive behaviors that stood in the way of our sharing the loving relationship we both thought possible. Two years later, we are more in love than ever before.
RedBook – Would you recommend it to others?
Yes, absolutely, if the two people are prepared to approach the experience with open hearts and minds and they are truly interested in doing the work to strengthen the relationship.
Lindsay, as I said before, “I honestly do not know what else we might have done that would have been so effective in turning the relationship around”.
Joyce Gioia

What Our Clients Are Saying About The Sedona Intensive
“The Sedona Intensive was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for happiness and serenity for over 20 years and as a result of the Intensive I found that I was looking in all the wrong places. I not only experienced what happiness and serenity truly are but now understand the process needed to maintain and enhance that state of being. It doesn’t mean that I don’t experience the ups and downs of life but what it does mean is that those downs do not even come close to impacting me the way they used to. There is now a presence of mind that provides clarity and purpose that did not exist for me prior to the Intensive.
It is impossible to put a value on such a quality of life enhancing experience that the Sedona Intensive provides the person willing to do the work.It is by far the most significant thing I have done in my 62 years.
I came across a quote last week that summed up what I experienced and learned while attending the Sedona Intensive – ‘Once you stop clinging and let things be, you’ll be free’ -Bodhidharma (440ce – 528 ce), the Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma: A Bilingual Edition.”
