TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT YOURSELF March, 2010 Sometimes I think things have gone tilt, especially in this country. There is no other place in the world I'd rather live but lately I have been thinking that everything has gone topsy- turvy. I am considering asking Bill Maher to run for President with me as his Campaign Manager. No one I know makes more sense than he does about where the world is today and talks about solutions not bifurcating. He believes as I do that party politics are running this country into the ground; that there are two worlds: the haves and the have nots; that there may be a recession in this country but it is only apparent in the zone of the have nots. And I heard him say last night that President Obama needs to be bolder in how he runs the country. I agree again with Maher. I may be the only one on the bandstand saying that 'this is the world all of us created.' And another point: Everyone seems to want the President to do what no one but Everyman can do and that is be a part of the recovery. Sacrifice. If you have more you have to give more. This is not a time for partisanship; rather it is a wake-up call to pull together. Quit the blame game. What I have decided to do is what I have been doing for more than 30 years since I sobered up. I am going to do the best I can with what I have left--sense and sensibility--courage to change the things I can, which means me, and be an example I would like to see others follow. I am going to pray for God's will to be done and for me to trust that the Divine knows better than I do what we as a collective need to face and do better where better needs to be done.
