Rev. Jeremiah Wright-Preacher or Philistine?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Let’s take a closer look…

Rev. Wright was born on September 22, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA. (no time)

For starters this blowhard has a birth chart that resembles another foot-in-mouth know-it-all, former President William Jefferson Clinton. It is interesting to note that Bully Bill is trying to derail Hillary’s presidential bid with his half-truths and histrionic rhetoric as Rev. Wrong is determined to do for Barack Obama.

Wright has Saturn, Pluto and the Moon conjunct in Leo-proud peacock, an actor in drag, privileged and preening all the way to the pulpit. His Leo planets square his Venus in Scorpio-here’s double trouble and points out his own secretive world of obsessive and compulsive behavior among other unattractive and destructive qualities this aspect portends.

His Sun in Virgo is squared by Uranus in Gemini-he thinks he’s “wright” but he is so wrong that it is a pity that we are in the 21st century technology with the Internet instant gratification. Had he been born more than half a century ago he would be left to talk to himself. He would never have been invited to the Press Club in Washington and more than likely any church committee looking for a solid candidate for their pulpit would have passed on Mr. Wrong from first words. He is not a nice person or one to be trusted or believed.

What makes him so delusional is that his Mercury (mind and mouth) are sitting on top of Neptune, the Great Deceiver. He has Mars (warlike) on top of Jupiter (religious beliefs) and he is certainly a screamer and a lot of hot air without a tenet to stand on. But four planets in Libra with Chiron and the Pars Fortune make him think he can get away with murder. He is doing everything he can do to kill Barack Obama’s chances of becoming the next President of the United States. (more…)

Unconscious Privilege

Bill SharonNew York City, like most major cities in the world suffers from terrible traffic congestion. Our mayor, Michael Bloomberg promoted something called congestion pricing which would have imposed an $8 charge on every vehicle that drove into the mid-town shopping district during the daytime. After months of working the proposal through the city council and getting the commitment from the federal government to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in mass transit subsidies contingent on its passage, the effort died in an informal meeting in the state capital. Essentially the representatives from the other boroughs of the city felt that solving the traffic problem in Manhattan would unfairly tax their constituents who drive to work. The result is that the governor will set up a committee to study other options which are already known and well documented (express bus lanes, parking permits in residential neighborhoods, bike lanes, alternate access based on license plate numbers, etc.).So, the fundamental question is: Why do we keep driving our cars into traffic jams?

The traffic problem is not the result of a lack of information – we are drowning in information. The answer may lie in part in a study that was done at Stanford University some years ago. Graduate students were asked to rank causes of death – a fairly morbid subject but very telling from the results. They rated homicides, accidents and other unnatural causes over four times more likely than they actually occur and rated cancer, heart disease and other so-called natural causes as being 20% less than they actually occur. We tend to see the cause of problems as external and something we have little control over. It’s the luck of the draw, and hopefully something that happens to the other guy. Many would call it human nature to think this way.

Wesley Snipes-Tax Dodger-Guilty as Charged

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Let’s take a closer look…

Go to fullsize imageWesley Snipes was born July 31, 1962 in Orlando, Florida (no time).

With no birth time I don’t know Snipes’ Rising Sign (Ascendant), but what I do know paints a dark enough picture of someone who is so arrogant that he thought he could get away with not paying taxes. Among other things, he has Sun, North Node, Moon, Mercury and Uranus in Leo, squared by Neptune in Scorpio and opposed by Saturn in Aquarius. This profile, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, tells me that he is not only an actor, but a selfish and self-centered one who thinks that he can do exactly what he wants to do when he wants to do it-and I am not just talking about not paying taxes like the rest of us poor people who are not in movies.

Wesley Snipes is a churlish L’Enfant terrible to the core-a narcissist with little regard for anyone but himself. He had all the Big Wigs from Hollywood like Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson (talk about your renegade outlaw-this rec should get him more time for bad association) and a ton of others from the movie industry write letters to try to get the judge to go soft on his tax evasion charges. It backfired. Yesterday (April 24, 2008) the verdict came down: three years-the maximum under federal guidelines. Since it was a federal indictment, Snipes will serve every day of the sentence. Before you get all verklempt on me, know that he did not pay taxes for six years and tried to plead some cockamamie defense like the marginal dudes and their molls living on the fringe of civilization. What was Denzel Washington thinking? (What was Oprah thinking when she invited Tom Cruise back on her show-more sofa stomping and whooping and a-hollering about Katie or Scientology? Oprah, Om your way back onto Eckhart Tolle’s New Earth!) (more…)

Moody’s Blues

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Bill SharonThere is an article that will be published in the Sunday, May 27, 2008 magazine section of the New York Times entitled “Triple A Failure” by Roger Lowenstein that is a must read for anyone who wants to begin to get a handle on what is going on in the financial markets these days. He makes a valiant and successful effort to lay out the role of the credit agencies (his primary source being Moody’s) in facilitating the current melt-down in the value of and the trust in the financial markets. What follows is an analysis of two of the more salient facts that he lays out for us. Moody’s, Standard and Poor and Fitch provide credit ratings for virtually all securities bought and sold, not only on the exchanges but also on unregulated auction markets. The Federal government outsourced their responsibilities to these agencies in the 1970’s so their imprimatur carries a regulatory seal of approval as well as a consumer reports rating. What is jaw dropping is that the financial institutions seeking these ratings also pay the rating agencies for them. If they don’t get approval for a particular “structured financial product” such as a mortgage backed security, they don’t have to pay. (more…)

(Self) Help Wanted

Sarah McLeanBy Sarah McLean

Oprah’s newest favorite person, Eckhart Tolle, is the author of the book
A New Earth: Awakening to your Life’s Purpose. His book is #1 on
the best-sellers’ list has been for nine consecutive weeks. In 2007, The
Secret by Rhonda Byrne spent 13 consecutive weeks at #1. This
says a lot about what is on the mind of our society as a whole – we are
collectively seeking help from “spiritual self-help” books. We want to
awaken to find meaning and purpose in life. We want to find the secret.

Spiritual Self-Help. Perhaps a better title for this genre of books
might be: Spiritual Revolution. On his web site, http://Revolution.com,
former AOL chairman Steve Case says, “This concept is still so new that
most people don’t even know what to call it – some focus on wellness, others
on healthy living, others on mind, body and spirit, still others on the
idea of life in balance. We care less about what people call it and more
on how it can improve people’s lives.” (more…)

Whose Business Are You In?

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Byron KatieNotice when you hurt that you are mentally out of your business.

If you’re not sure, stop and ask, “Mentally, whose business am I in?”

There are only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours, and God’s.

Whose business is it if an earthquake happens? God’s business.

Whose business is it if your neighbor down the street has an ugly lawn?

Your neighbor’s business.

Whose business is it if you are angry at your neighbor down the street because he has an ugly lawn? Your business.

Life is simple-it is internal.

Count, in five minute intervals, how many times you are in someone else’s business mentally. Notice when you give uninvited advice or offer your opinion about something (aloud or silently).

Ask yourself: “Am I in their business? Did they ask me for my advice?”

And more importantly, “Can I take the advice I am offering and apply it to my life?”
